Formulation of basic engineering problems. Examples of partial differential equations in mechanical engineering: the heat equation, Laplace equation, the wave equation. Separation of variables. Eigen function expansions. Integral transform and fundamental solutions: Laplace, Fourier, Hankel and Mellin transforms, Green’s functions. Integral Equations. Calculus of variations with applications to mechanical engineering.
